by admin477351

Authorities in Mpumalanga have closed down an illegal pharmacy in Acornhoek after discovering unqualified workers selling prescription drugs without authorization. The raid was conducted by the Hawks in coordination with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), the White River Flying Squad, and the Acornhoek Local Criminal Record Centre.

During the operation, officers found four unlicensed individuals dispensing medication to customers. The 50-year-old owner, who arrived later, failed to present a valid operating licence or registration with the South African Pharmacy Council. The investigation revealed that the business had been running illegally for six years.

Officials seized a large quantity of scheduled medicines, from Schedule 1 to Schedule 6, and are assessing their total value. The suspects are expected to face multiple charges under the Medical and Related Substances Act and Pharmacy Ownership and Licensing Regulations.

Hawks Head Major General Nico Gerber commended the joint effort, stating that the operation prevented further harm to the community and demonstrated the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and health regulators in curbing illegal medical practices.
