Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of enhancing diplomatic and cooperative relations with Egypt during his visit to Cairo, underscoring the enduring partnership between the two nations. His arrival, accompanied by his wife Peng Liyuan, was met with a warm reception from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his spouse, marking 70 years of diplomatic ties between China and Egypt.
In anticipation of his visit, Xi expressed in a published message that despite shifts in the global landscape, the bond between China and Egypt remains robust. He advocated for intensified efforts to broaden the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership, seeking to explore new areas of collaboration. Xi highlighted the synergy between both countries as they pursue significant national development goals and urged alignment of their development strategies, particularly under the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on projects that promise sustainable economic benefits.
Xi also pointed to the potential for increased cooperation in various sectors such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He believes that these enhanced exchanges would foster a deeper mutual understanding and strengthen the ties between the people of both nations. Moreover, Xi reiterated the importance of mutual support on major international issues and the protection of shared interests, positioning Egypt as a pivotal partner in bolstering cooperation between China and both Arab countries and Africa.
Highlighting their roles as significant players in the Global South, Xi called for closer coordination on international matters, an increase in multilateral cooperation, and joint initiatives to promote peace and stability worldwide. This visit is anticipated to fortify the political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, opening avenues for cooperation in areas like trade, infrastructure, and technology.
