South Africa’s government operations are set to continue seamlessly despite the temporary withdrawal of President Cyril Ramaphosa from public duties. This decision comes on the advice of his medical team, who have recommended rest following his return from the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. During his recuperation, ministers will step in to fulfill his public commitments.
President Ramaphosa attended the 18th BRICS Summit, which took place from September 12 to 13, focusing on critical global issues such as governance, economic cooperation, trade, and development. Upon his arrival back in South Africa on Monday, the decision was made for him to take a break from public appearances.
In a related development, Deputy President Paul Mashatile is also on medical leave following a procedure. Despite the absence of these senior leaders from certain public engagements, their roles and responsibilities are being effectively managed by their respective offices to ensure continuity in governance.
The Presidency has not disclosed further details regarding the specific health concerns of President Ramaphosa, maintaining a focus on the functioning of government operations during this period. The temporary delegation of duties underscores the administration’s commitment to maintaining stability and uninterrupted leadership.
