Vietnam is actively pursuing stronger trade and investment ties with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, aiming to enhance market access and foster robust economic partnerships. Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân emphasized the importance of fully leveraging the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement to boost bilateral trade and investment flows. She proposed potential upgrades to this agreement and called on the EAEU to resolve existing trade barriers impacting Vietnamese exports such as textiles, footwear, and rice.
In discussions with EAEU representatives, both parties explored ways to improve trade data coordination, hasten the convening of their joint committee meetings, and widen the adoption of electronic certificates of origin. EAEU officials noted that bilateral trade had nearly doubled, underscoring further avenues for economic growth. These discussions highlight the shared commitment to deepening economic collaboration and overcoming obstacles to trade.
During a separate dialogue with Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa, Xuân advocated for enhanced high-level exchanges and deeper economic cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt. She highlighted the potential for a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement, pinpointing agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as key sectors for expanded cooperation. This indicates a broadening of Vietnam’s economic and diplomatic engagement in strategic regions.
These meetings took place in Bishkek, coinciding with Vietnam’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit. The summit provided a platform for Vietnam to strengthen its economic and diplomatic links with regional partners, reflecting Hanoi’s strategic efforts to diversify its international relationships and enhance its economic reach.
