The commitment was reiterated during a meeting between Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held in Cairo. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the seventh session of the Qatari-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee, underscoring the importance both nations place on their growing relationship.
The discussions highlighted the robust growth in economic exchanges, noting an 80 percent increase in trade between the two countries by 2025. This surge is complemented by the expanding presence of Qatari investments in Egypt, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone where a sustainable aviation fuel production project is underway. Such ventures not only strengthen economic links but also contribute to sustainable development in the region.
In addition to economic matters, the meeting also covered cooperation in labor and consular affairs. Both sides expressed a mutual interest in addressing regional challenges, emphasizing efforts to de-escalate tensions and promote stability. The officials reiterated the necessity of ongoing coordination on matters concerning Gaza, emphasizing their shared commitment to diplomatic solutions for regional disputes.
Further discussions underscored the critical importance of maritime security and the freedom of navigation in the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea. Both countries acknowledged that these elements are crucial for protecting international trade routes and ensuring regional stability, reflecting their strategic importance in global commerce and security.
