Tsepo Masilela, a former defender for Kaizer Chiefs, has emphasized the importance of the club signing more established Bafana Bafana players to consistently compete with top teams like Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Masilela believes that bringing in proven South African internationals will be key for the Chiefs as they aim to challenge for major trophies once again.
In his assessment of the current squad, Masilela highlighted the potential of goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and attacking midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala to become regulars in the national team. He noted that while Shabalala shows promise, he must deliver more consistent performances and increase his goal contributions to secure a spot in the Bafana Bafana lineup.
Further addressing the team’s needs, Masilela pinpointed midfielder Sphephelo “Yaya” Sithole as a strategic signing for Kaizer Chiefs. He stressed the necessity of strengthening the club’s midfield by adding a strong defensive midfielder, which would complement the existing player roster and enhance the team’s overall performance.
Despite the Kaizer Chiefs’ efforts to bolster their squad with new players ahead of the 2026/27 season, Masilela remains adamant that the recruitment of experienced national players is crucial. According to him, this strategy will significantly enhance the club’s ability to compete at a high level and secure important victories in the seasons to come.
