The South African Weather Service has issued a series of yellow-level warnings for adverse weather conditions across five provinces, indicating potential threats from strong winds, heavy rainfall, and severe thunderstorms. Among these, three Yellow Level 4 warnings highlight significant concerns. One of these cautions about damaging winds and waves impacting the coastline stretching from Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape to Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape, posing hazards to marine activities, ports, and harbors.
In the Northern Cape and Western Cape, another Yellow Level 4 warning is in place due to the risk of strong winds that could potentially damage infrastructure, temporary structures, and utilities. Additionally, a Level 4 warning has been issued for disruptive rainfall in parts of the Western Cape, where flooding might interfere with roads, settlements, and traffic flow.
Complementing these, three Yellow Level 2 warnings are also active. The Eastern Cape coast and its eastern areas are expecting disruptive rainfall, while severe thunderstorms are predicted to sweep across the western regions of the Free State. These storms bring concerns of strong winds, hail, lightning, and the possibility of falling trees.
Moreover, a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds is in effect for western sections of the Western Cape and northern interior areas of the Eastern Cape. The anticipated winds could impact temporary structures, settlements, and transport routes adversely.
Adding to these weather challenges, the service has also alerted the public to an extremely high fire danger in central parts of the country, including substantial areas of KwaZulu-Natal. This highlights the importance of vigilance and preparedness across the affected regions.
