Fresh missile and drone strikes by Russia on Kyiv resulted in the death of at least one person and injuries to 13 others, as confirmed by Ukrainian officials on Sunday. These attacks occurred just a day following Ukraine’s targeting of logistical hubs and warehouses within Russian territory, highlighting the ongoing hostilities between the two nations.
The Ukrainian capital was rocked by explosions soon after air-raid sirens signaled the threat of inbound ballistic missiles. Six districts within Kyiv were reportedly impacted by the assault. Notably, an apartment building in the Solomianskyi district sustained damage, while fires erupted at a supermarket and a residential area in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Additionally, an attack struck a shopping and entertainment complex in the Dniprovskyi district, and further damage was reported to an apartment building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, as well as a non-residential site.
Beyond Kyiv, a Russian drone strike claimed another life in Ukraine’s central Dnipropetrovsk region. Simultaneously, on the Russian side, a Ukrainian attack led to one casualty in the Kursk region. These events mark the continuation of an escalating cycle of retaliation, with Ukraine having recently intensified its long-range strikes on Russian soil, particularly targeting infrastructure and energy installations. Ukrainian authorities have linked these attacks to facilities involved in producing components for drones and navigation systems, notably in Moscow and Tambov regions.
While the external conflict persists, Ukraine is also navigating internal political challenges. Recent governmental changes, including the removal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, have sparked public demonstrations. Thousands have gathered across various cities for several consecutive days, expressing concerns and speculating over potential broader shifts within the military leadership.
